I was to use this broach as inspiration for an eco-friendly bouquet for their upcoming second issue. Beaming with excitement, I accepted Kelly's challenge. Little did Kelly know, I had been dying to do a broach bouquet for the longest time...and now was my chance!! Little did I know, how many broaches one little bouquet would take!!

Their October ceremony and reception were both held at Lake Quivira Country Club, overlooking the sandy beach of Lake Quivira. Sara's words to me when we initially met - "I want it to look like a page from a magazine!!". So we pulled out all the stops with lighting, draping, crystals, the whole sha-bang! It was a blast! Special thanks to Innovative Lighting in Kansas City for their fantastic work on the lighting and ceremony draping. We added some crystal and orchid strands and some uplighting to the centerpieces to give Sara her bling dream wedding!!

As soon as Karina told me she wanted to do Asian/Tropical inspired floral design for her July wedding, I got so excited! Karina left the designs up to me and I knew exactly where I wanted to take the fuchsia, orange and cream decor. And let me tell you - every Bride should take Karina as a perfect example of how you should spend your pre-wedding day - chilaxing with your girls and having fun. Her and her Bridesmaids all looked beyond adorable with their "Bride/Bridesmaids" shirts and stripped knee socks. Karina literally skipped over to meet me when I arrived to setup her centerpieces...now that's a happy and relaxed bride! I love it!!

Congratulations to Alyssa and Christopher who were married at Country Club Christian Church this evening!! They're still partying the night away at their reception at Lock Lloyd Country Club. Alyssa wanted an ivory and eggplant color palate in a more modern but still classic style. They also had many large glass cylinder vases with submerged eggplant orchids lining the aisle of the church. At the reception, each table featured one of two designs - one of our famous curly willow trees with hanging candles or a setting of clear glass vases with submerged blooms and floating candles.

I walked up to the Bridal suite at Indian Hills Country Club to give Sarah her bouquet just as she was opening the door to get ready for her photos. She looked absolutely stunning. I felt like such a wuss because I couldn’t help but tear up! Even her Mom was playing it cool - but here I am ready to blubber like a little baby! Darcey+Andy - Pretty in Pink (and green)

There are way too many wonderful things to say about Darcey - Every time I see her she is infectiously bubbly and happy. There is no wonder she had 550 guests wanting to see her and her new hubby Andy get married! My favorite part of Darcey's wedding (besides her gorgeous dress, hairpin and of course the flowers :) was having the honor of witnessing an amazing moment before the guests started to arrive. Andy was turned away at the altar and Darcey walked into the sanctuary...and then they closed the doors! So, no, I didn't get to witness this magic moment but what was so awesome was seeing Darcey's bridesmaids peer into the sanctuary windows to get a peek at the first time Andy saw Darcey in her wedding dress. It was apparent what was going on in the sanctuary by the rounds of "awww's" and happy tears from Darcey's closest friends. You could just see how much hey loved Darcey and how much they loved seeing her marry her soul mate.

Is this getting too mushy?? I had a goofy smile on my face for a good half hour after that - Like I said, Darcey = infectious happiness! The flowers are a whole other thing - I am super excited to post some photos! My husband wasn't with me to get some with his prof camera...So the point and shoot had to do.

I was channeling Jeff Leatham. I can't wait to make some like it again!

The guests tossed pink and white petals from vintage inspired garden baskets as the couple left the reception.

How to : Magazine worthy wedding on a budget

1. Is there a centerpiece you have in mind that you just know you would never be able to afford to put on every table? Let's face it, for most couple's huge centerpieces featuring countless stems of orchids or peony's at a 300 guest wedding is a fantasy. A fantastic way to have wedding flowers of your dreams is to do just a couple of your larger fantasy arrangements featured at key tables in the room. These are called "statement pieces". This will give you the wow-factor without going to the poor house. The remaining guest tables can feature a smaller version that reflects the style of the larger pieces, but is far less in cost.

2. Unique table arrangements like several long banquet tables together or several different sizes and shapes of tables will help set your wedding apart. Recently we designed flowers for a bride that had one continuous table in the shape of a "C". It was fabulous and I know her guests were all saying "Wow!!".

3. Another low cost but high impact item is colored linens and table runners. These can play a key role in adding color to your venue and help give your wedding a more cohesive look.

Sarah+Brad - Romantic Glamour

Sarah and Brad were married this weekend in Overland Park at Breakpoint Church. Following was a jaw-droppingly beautiful reception at Union Station. I have to give a huge shout out to Sarah and Brad's wedding planner, Almira Koentjoro, for putting together a stunning reception. Instead of traditional round tables, Sarah and Brad had one continuous table in a C shape. Eggplant linens and plum napkins help set the tone. Along with silver crystal draped candelabras and black wrought iron lanterns, we added our tall centerpieces of magenta and plum blooms, dripping with crystals. Everything was so well planned and thought out, it was just stunning. Slightly outside the box, but not breaking the bank, Sarah and Brad had a reception I know their guests will not soon forget.

Rosa+Andrew - Sunset Garden

Rosa and Andrew are such a sweet couple! Rosa chose a sunset palate of pinks, oranges and a touch of light green. Perfect for summer! Rosa and Andy were married in Olathe at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Reception followed at the Mission Hills Country Club. I love Mission Hills CC because they have a fabulous staff and the decor is stunning, from hardwood floors to huge decadent chandeliers.

Kissing balls in hydrangeas, mini roses and dahlias lined the aisle and gave the church a pop of color.

This week we headed back to Asbury United in Prairie Village. Always a pleasure! Congratulations to Lauren and Jamie!! Though I didn't get to see Lauren in her dress : ( she was still (as usual) rocking some extra cute accessories (a white flower broach). I can't wait to see photos of our super stylish Bride all decked out! Lauren and Jamie chose an all white and celery green palate to accent the white and baby blue church.

Eclectic Red and Aqua and Traditional Garden in Pinks

I was so excited to get to design the gorgeous flowers for this weekend's weddings! Congratulations to Katie and Eric, who were married at Asbury United in Prairie Village. Katie and her Bridesmaid's carried all white bouquets of summer flowers - hydrangea, peonies, and mini callas. I loved her choice of white flowers to mimic the fresh, clean and classic pale blue and white church.

Katie and Eric's reception was held at the Ball Conference Center in Olathe. This is an awesome venue - proceeds go to support the KVC, which offers a variety of medical, behavioral and social services to thousands of children and families across Kansas. The couple chose to add a punch of color tot he reception - red and aqua!! It is such an unexpected color combo, but so unbelievably adorable! I love it! To create an eclectic feel, there were 3 varieties of centerpieces : 1) Red clusters of roses, dahlias, and gerbers in an aqua vase made of recycled materials 2) a setting of red submerged orchids, gerbers and ranunculus blooms with aqua stones and aqua ribbon bands 3) a setting of Katie vase collection with simple, white blooms in each vase.

A huge congrats to Lisa and Brandon - Our adorable couple who tied the knot at the Hawthorne House this weekend. Lisa's bouquet featured shades of pinks and corals and included tulips, roses, hydrangea, lilies, peonies and ranunculus. The colors were so gorgeous together - Lisa's bouquet was definitely one of my favorites from the summer so far. For her Bridesmaids, we added a pop of cream and green - a fabulous, fresh summer look. Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos of the other pieces...Fortunately, Lisa and Brandon chose the talented Sandberg Photography for their photographer : ) Can't wait to see photos of the happy couple's big day!!

Bold and Beautiful at the Uptown Theater

Congratulations to Tonya and Brian!! They got married this weekend at the Uptown Theater. Bold and bright tones reflected the couple's fun personalities...

Tonya's bouquet features yellow mini callas, dark pink and orange gerbers, green cymbidium orchids, pink peonies, fiddlehead ferns accented with ti leaves.

All of the men's bouts were super cute fiddlehead ferns. This is a great way to keep the bouts masculine and add some whimsical character.

Two of our famous curly willow trees, accented with bright gerber daisies and green hydrangeas as well as hanging candles stood next to the couple as they said their vows.

It was also Danielle and Sean's big day - Didn't have time to get any photos of her bouquet or the flowers decorating the church, but was able to get a quick photo of one of their centerpieces. Cute, simple and fun!

Natural Beauty

This Saturday, Tasha and Andy were married at Danforth Chapel on the gorgeous KU campus. It was the perfect Spring day for a wedding - Breeze, sun, spring blossoms, and clear blue sky.

Tasha's bouquet was a textured mix inspired by nature. Orange lilies, calendula, tulips and cream hydrangea and ranunculus, finished with scented geranium leaves.

Intimate and beautifully remodeled Danforth Chapel at KU.

The reception was held within short walk's distance of Danforth at the Adams Alumni Center.

Half of the centerpieces featured a wildflower inspired mix of orange and creams. Tasha's Bridesmaid's (and Andy's Best Woman's) bouquets were placed in (our favorite) orange bouquet boxes made of recycled materials, and accented with dark blue ribbon to match the Bridesmaid's dresses. Tasha's bouquet was later placed in the orange bouquet box we designed for her.

From last Saturday, this is Judy's bouquet of cream gerber daisies, green hydrangea and green viburnum with matching mini gerber boutonniere.

DIY Success! The Laws of DIY

I love crafty DIY projects. They can bring so much of the unique personality of the Bride and Groom into the wedding day. But there are a few "Laws of DIY" that you want to follow to avoid breaking the bank and reaching your breaking point!

Law #1 : "If it costs more to DIY, don't!" It might sound crazy because DIY projects are supposed to be a fun way to SAVE money. But, you want to make sure you budget out your project before you start. For example, there was a couple working with a custom invitation and printing company. They ordered all their invites, save-the-dates, everything! But when it came to the napkins with their monogram printed on them, they decided they wanted to try to save a little money and buy blank napkins and stamp the napkins themselves. Great idea in theory but they did not budget out ahead of time. The blank napkins ended up costing the same as the printed napkins - plus they still had to purchase stamps and ink to put their monogram on them! As it turned out, it cost the couple $80 more to DIY, and they were less than satisfied with the quality of the end product, to say the least.

Law #2 : "Don't bite off more than you can chew." Many brides have a mindset that they can do it all DIY to save money and put their personal touch on everything in the wedding. I know this one really well, because I was one of them! Just take on a few DIY projects on that will really shine and that you can accomplish weeks or months before the wedding. Your guests will admire your works of art, but you won't be tearing your hair out in the last few weeks before (or worse yet, on the day of!) your wedding trying to finish everything. A story of my husband's co-worker comes to mind. For their wedding just months ago, this couple decided to have their aunt bake the wedding cake. Unfortunately their aunt was up all night baking and icing the cake. And when the aunt and mother of the groom were transporting the cake to the reception, the mother of the groom had to suddenly stop the car, causing one side of the cake to slam into the front seat! Obviously, they did not follow the Laws of DIY and this was not a case of DIY success!

Law #3 : "Good DIY doesn't look DIY." Once again, it is so important that you choose just a few key DIY projects that will really shine. Focus on these and make them really creative and quality. When choosing your projects, be sure to ask yourself - Will my guests be able to tell that this is a DIY project? If your project looks professional, congrats on your DIY success!

"I know every bride says it, and I’m sure they mean it, but our wedding was truly the best day(s) of our lives. We had a year and a half engagement and I started planning right off the bat! It was a good thing to because we filled the wedding with little touches and DIY projects that made everything perfectly us.

Even before I met Doug I found the place where I wanted to get married while at a business conference. Whispering Pines is tucked away in a woodsy section of Rhode Island. We booked the whole site for Columbus Day weekend for our 80 person wedding. Once we chose Whispering Pines we started telling our guests who started referring to the weekend wedding as “camp”. We decided to go with the rustic camp theme with wood slices, wildflowers, care packages for guests, and camp t-shirts for favors. We stuck with an aqua and poppy color scheme and I think the look really came together.

I wish I could tell the entire story of our wedding with all the little stories that made the weekend memorable. Like how the night before the wedding the girls and I snuck into the boys cabin to play pranks, very “summer camp” of us, but they were up waiting with shaving cream. It was hilarious and I wound up spending a few hours the night before our wedding with my groom and the boys. I know, scandalous. The whole wedding party got about 4 hours of sleep!

Our budget wasn’t huge so we tried to maximize the most important things. Whispering Pines, though lovely, isn’t cheap. It sounds shocking but it was 3/4 of our budget for the venue, food, and overall experience. We figured that’s what people would remember and we were right! We had about 5K to spend on all the other details & vendors.

One of the major themes of the wedding was trying to use things that we could re-use after the wedding. We needed an “altar” for our outdoor wedding so we decided to buy a side table that we could use outside for the unity candle, now it’s Doug’s bedside table. The frame that we used for our setting chart now houses all my earrings, using just a mesh screen behind it. The blanket box for the campfire throws now sits at the end our our bed holding our extra blankets. Someday it’ll be our children’s toy chest. I didn’t feel as guilty buying unique and quality things knowing that they’d be put to good use after the wedding.

I worked really closely with Joy from Flower Thyme in Wakefield, RI to get just the right look for our flowers. My inspiration was big ball dahlias, which have a huge pop factor without being too expensive. We filled in with white hydrangeas, fern fronds, hypercerium berries, bright red tulips, and various wild flowers. It was impossible to find an aqua flower so we opted for a bight blue bow on all the arrangements. We loved our photographer Michelle. Loved. MIchelle was so sweet and professional. She even brought her 16 year old son as a second shooter, so he can learn the business, at no extra cost to us.

For my girls I chose a bright poppy color and told them to pick any tea length dress in that color from the Dessy line – in either Nu-Georgette or Duchess Satin. My sister, the MOH, choose a long dress to look a little different. My dress was a great find. I went dress shopping twice, the first just being a quick run through where I didn’t even try anything on. The dress I choose, Abigail by Sophia Tolli, was the first dress I tried on. It was perfect for me and the setting and I never felt more beautiful. My shoes were a $20 find at DSW and I plan on wearing them again and again.

After the wedding many guests changed into their camp tees, yes camp tees, to head over to the campfire for s’mores and sparklers. Since October can be chilly, especially last fall, we knew we wanted blankets for the campfire. I found all the fleece throws, mostly non matching blues and reds, for $1-$3 each everywhere from CVS to IKEA to Joann Fabrics. Everyone was so comfy by the fire we stayed out until the last guests retired to their rooms. "

Congratulations to Aysha and Cervente! Here are some photos of thier bouquets at their reception site Intercontinental Hotel on the Plaza.

Aysha's bouquet is a classic round clutch bouquet featuring ivory roses, peonies and ranunculus. Her bouquet was wrapped in a satin ivory ribbon with pearl embellishments. Her Bridesmaid's carried simple bouquets of light blue hydrangea wrapped in silver ribbon. Gorgeous classic, simple elegance.

Just got some FABULOUS photos of Mariah and Woody's wedding. The happy couple chose a gorgeous shade of muted orange to accent their quirky, fun, yet elegant theme.

Mariah's bouquet features muted orange roses and mokara orchids, cream stock, burnt orange freesia and miniature calla lilies, and my favorite...monkey tails.

The groom wore bowling shoes, a nod to their reception site Lucky Strike Lanes at Power and Light.

Each of her two Bridesmaids carried a bouquet of a different type of flower, accented with monkey tails.

Urban Elegance at Nara Event Space

Just got back setting up at Nara's event space (1617 Main in KC). Can't wait for Natasha and Lee to see everything! They are such a sweet couple...The space and decor suits them just perfectly.

Natasha's all white bouquet features freesia, tulips, lisianthus, and hydrangea with a simple white satin ribbon wrap.

White rose petals and pillar candles in tall cylinder vases create the ultimate romantic aisle decor.

I told Lee's mom how beautiful and perfect the menus and place cards were. She informed me that the couple made them as well as their invites! They were outstanding!

Covenant Cakes baked and designed this gorgeous three tier cake. It smelled delicious! And Rhonda, who owns Covenant along with her sister, was such a doll.

Deer Creek Bridal Show
